Houseplants add color to your home, enhance its décor and, as some studies suggest, can even help make you healthier. Find out how fun, beautiful and beneficial houseplants can be! Join Clallam County Master Gardener Jeanette Stehr-Green for a special two-hour evening Green Thumb Education Series presentation, “All About Houseplants: Selection, Care and Propagation,” Thursday, May 7th, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Vern Burton Community Center Meeting Rooms, 308 E. 4th Street in Port Angeles.
Jeanette will talk about how to select, care for and repot houseplants, and will share common techniques used to propagate them. She will also give away houseplants that she propagated from her own collection! By the end of this presentation participants will be able to:
• List environmental factors that affect houseplant growth.
• Select houseplants best suited to the conditions in their home.
• Provide appropriate care to their houseplants.
• Repot a houseplant.
• Propagate their houseplants using commonly used techniques.
Jeanette is a houseplant enthusiast, surrounding herself with indoor plants to chase the blues away. She has been growing (and enjoying) houseplants since her youth, having learned much about their care from her mother and through self-study. Jeanette has been a Clallam County Master Gardener since 2003, is an invited instructor and subject matter expert on houseplants for the WSU Green School, writes gardening articles for local newspapers and is a frequent speaker at Master Gardener and other educational events. She was the 2012 Clallam County Master Gardener of the Year, has attained the Lifetime Achievement status with Clallam County Master Gardeners and is a recipient of the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Green Thumb Education Series, sponsored by the Washington State University Clallam County Master Gardeners, is held in person typically on Thursdays from January through May, and September through November. Scheduled presentations are subject to change.
