PORT ANGELES – Crews are searching for a possible downed airplane near Port Angeles.

U.S. and Canadian Coast Guard ships and aircraft are searching the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Reports of a plane down came in about 5 PM Tuesday.

The plane is described as a Cessna 170. One male was reported to be aboard the aircraft. The flight originated from Ketchikan, AK.

The Coast Guard says the pilot described land formations he could see and ships that were in the area. The Coast Guard built a search area based upon that information. Most of the search has consisted of the waters north and northwest of Port Angeles, up to the international boundary line.
