RICHLAND, Wash. – Detectives are investigating after police found someone living in a home with the body of a woman who had been dead for weeks.

The discovery was made Thursday after Richland police and Benton County sheriff’s deputies went to the home to perform a welfare check.

Benton County Coroner Bill Leach said it’s estimated that the woman had been dead for more than three weeks. Her identity has not been confirmed.

A preliminary examination of the body didn’t show any injuries, according to the coroner. An autopsy is planned to determine cause of death.

Officers also found another person inside the home. That person was taken to the hospital for mental health treatment, according to authorities.
