PORT ANGELES — Both Peninsula Pirate basketball teams got it done Wednesday night, with the Pirate women clinching a Northern Conference Championship in a hard- fought 67-61 win. The Pirate men were very impressive leading Shoreline the entire game and getting an 83-66 win to clinch the 4th and final spot to the NWAC tournament beginning next Thursday morning in Everett.

The Pirate women jumped out to a 38-18 lead, but Shoreline pulled to within 2 points at 47-45 with 8:35 left before the Pirates eventually pulled the game out. Hope Glasser and Ituau Tuisaula lead the way with 13 points and Keeli-Jade Smith added 11 points and Madison Cooke hit for 8 points. The Pirates complete the season at (13-1) (22-3).

The Pirate men played one of their best games of the season leading the entire way. The Pirates played high intensity defense early and it set the tone for the rest of the game. The Pirates led 40-32 at the half. The Pirates shot a hot 50% from the field and forced 17 turnovers that the Pirates turned into 14 points. Sophomore Jaylin Reed was spectacular, Reed hit for 26 points, pulled down 9 rebounds and dished out 5 assists. Fr. Roosevelt Williams had 24 points and Isaiah Sampson hit for 17 points. The Pirates finish the regular season with a 8-6 record and was just one win from 2nd place. The Pirates are 16-10 overall.
