PORT ANGELES – About 120 Port Angeles utility customers lost power Thursday morning when a tree toppled from the steep embankment along Marine Drive and took out the power lines.

Traffic was snarled downtown and the Tumwater Truck Route was closed as a result, from about 11:00 until the utility crews got the line repaired and the tree off the roadway by around 2:00.

Among those affected by the power outage was the McKinley Mill.

Public Works Director Thomas Hunter said trees have been known to come down in that area in the past due to high winds and heavy rain, but in this case, “It was just Mother Nature reminding us who’s in control.”
