PORT ANGELES – Swain’s General Store is celebrating its 65th year in business this week. Mike Mudd, who’s been with the store for 42 of those years, says they’re making it worth the trip to come in over the next two weeks.

“We’ve got a flyer that breaks tomorrow, Wednesday. It’ll be two weeks, and we’ve got some fun swag to do with it, too. We’ve got some special t-shirts we made up and some stickers and, you know, buttons and things like that. So I think customers are going to like those, too.”

To sweeten the deal, they’re firing up the popcorn maker for the first time in over 2 years. The crunchy treat has been a staple at the front doors for as long as anyone can remember, but the pandemic made wearing a mask and eating popcorn in the store an impossibility, so they had to make the tough decision to turn the machine off for a while.

“Our customers, they love us. They love Swain’s. Obviously we love our customers, and popcorn’s part of that. And we knew it was a big deal, but we were a little bit blindsided as to how much people were going to miss it. Based on what we see on social media and everything, people are more than anxious to come in and get a bag of popcorn at Swain’s.”

65 years in business will be celebrated starting Wednesday at Swain’s General Store.

“We appreciate our customers and being so supportive of us for all these years. Come in and have some popcorn and take advantage of the sale and we’ll have a good time.”
