CLALLAM COUNTY – The Special Olympics Torch Run is back, and on Wednesday local law enforcement agencies from both Clallam and Jefferson counties will carry the torch across the Olympic Peninsula in support of the athletes.

The Torch Run is the largest public awareness effort and fundraising campaign for Special Olympics Washington and raises almost half a million dollars each year.

This year, the National Park Service will start the event at Laird’s Corner at 7am. The torch will be passed between personnel from the Prosecutor’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office and Juvenile Services as it goes east along 101 to Hollywood Beach on the Port Angeles waterfront. After a short break, Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King will lead the way along the Discovery Trail, where the torch will be taken up folks from the PAPD, the Sheriff’s Office and Lower Elwha PD.

Sequim Police will take over at RR Bridge Park, then it’s State Parks personnel heading east after that, followed by Jamestown Tribal Enforcement officers, who will carry it to the Longhouse.

The Sheriff’s Office will then transport the torch to the 101/104 junction to hand it off to Jefferson County, and they’ll take the torch all the way to the Hood Canal Bridge.
