PORT ANGELES — It was a big night of NWAC basketball as the Peninsula Pirates took both games from their old rivals Skagit Valley.

The Pirate women used a balanced scoring night to hold off the Cardinals 57-49. The Pirates with their 3 quarters press forced 28 Skagit turnovers to get out to a 18-9 1st quarter lead. Millie Long led the way with 14 points to go with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Ituau Tuisaula hit for 13 points and an amazing 21 rebounds. Tati Kamae had 13 points  and 5 rebounds. University of New Mexico transfer Chasity Selden made her first home appearance a solid one scoring 7 points, dishing out 5 assists, 2 of those were no look passes that sent the Pirate fans into a frenzy. Selden also had 4 steals. Talia Marini the Freshman out of Reno hit two, 3-point shots for 6 points. The Pirates are now 1-2 in league play and 9-5 overall. The Pirates host Olympic on Saturday.

The 2nd-ranked Pirate men continued their outstanding season with a solid 78-67 win over the 7th ranked Cardinals.  The Pirates got out to a fast start as Roosevelt Williams Jr  took the game over early. Williams scored 14 early 1st half points from all over the floor. Williams did it all scoring 24 points, pulling down 11 rebounds and dishing out 7 assists. Malik Jackson was outstanding as well hitting for 13 points, pulling down 13 rebounds. Mikey Medlock threw in 13 points and Ese Onakpoma  had 12 points and 6 rebounds. The Pirates out rebounded Skagit 51-31. The Pirates are now an incredible 16-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

In high school basketball action tonight in a high school basketball game you will hear tonight on Newsradio KONP, the Roughrider boys head to Silverdale to take on Olympic. The Roughriders are 8-1 in league play and 10-5 overall. The Trojans are 4-5 in league play and 5-7 overall. The Les Schwab Tires pre-game show starts at 6:45 pm with the tip off at 7 pm. Oly Archibald and Joe Gladfelter  will have the play by play.

In high school girls action the Roughriders host Olympic at 7 pm and the 2nd ranked Sequim Wolves host North Kitsap at 7 pm.

Tomorrow the Sequim boys take on North Kitsap in Poulsbo and you can hear that game on KONP.

The Olympic League bowling tournament starts today at All Star Lanes at Noon.
