PORT ANGELES — In girls high school district basketball, as expected the #2 seed Port Angeles Roughriders blew out #7 seed Foster 67-37. The Roughriders have now qualified for the “Sweet 16” regional and will play #3 seed Sammamish Friday night at 6 pm at Silas High School. Sammamish beat #6 seed Kingston last night 45-30. Sammamish the Champions of the King Co League beat 2nd place Foster 3 times this year by scores of 48-45, 48-35 and 55-38.

A Roughrider win over Sammamish would put them in the championship game at 12:30 Saturday at Tacoma Community College against the winner of the #1 seed White River – #5 seed Enumclaw game. That game will be played right after the Roughrider – Sammamish game at Silas High School.

Friday night Roughrider – Sammamish game will be broadcast here on KONP Newsradio.

Roughrider seniors Page Mason and Izzy Felton are smiling as they are a win over Sammamish away from a ticket to the District Championship game on Saturday

The Sequim Wolves girls simply lost to a better Enumclaw team last night in Sequim 66-49. The Wolves trailed after the first quarter 18-10 and then were out scored 20-7 in the 2nd quarter to trail 38-17 at the half. The Wolves never threatened.

Gracie Chartraw led the way with 27 points. Libby Turella and Jolene Vaara hit for 8 points.

There is good news for the Wolves. They will host North Mason Friday night at 6:00. If the Wolves win that game, they will play Saturday night at 6:00 against the winner of the Clover Park – North Kitsap game at Foster high school for a winner to the Sweet 16 match up. Sequim will be favored in both games.

In boys district action tonight, the Port Angeles Roughriders will host Steilacoom at 6 pm. A Roughrider win will put them in a winner to the Sweet 16 Regional Saturday at Foster high school with a 4:00 Tip off.

The Sequim Wolves travel to Franklin Pierce tonight for a 6:00 tip off. The #6 seed Cardinals lost to Renton 78-47. You can hear tonight’s game right here on KONP Newsradio with the tip off at 6:00. The Les Schwab Tires pre-game show starts at 5:45.

In NWAC action a broken-down team bus near the Hood Canal Bridge could not stop the Pirates from earning their 13th straight win, even if some of the Pirates did not get to the game until late in the 1st quarter. The 4th ranked Pirates 10-0 17-2 beat Bellevue 59-41. Once again Jelissa Julmist the former Sequim Wolf was outstanding hitting for 16 points and hauling down an amazing 22 rebounds.

The Pirate men 6-4 13-11 lost a heartbreaker in 2 OTs 91-88. Javon Ervin led the Pirates with 30 points. The Pirates travel to Olympic on Saturday.
