PORT ANGELES — On the final day of the 2A Golf tournament, Port Angeles Roughrider Nate Anderson shot an 86, following his 76 on Tuesday. Anderson’s two-day total of 162 placed him 20th in the state.

In the girls’ tournament, Clair Osterberg of the Roughriders shot a 108 after a 94 on Tuesday, totaling 202 for 39th place in the state. Ava Johnson of Sequim shot a 102 after a 96 on Tuesday, finishing with a 198, good for 36th place in the state.

The Burlington-Edison boys’ team had an impressive showing, placing three golfers in the top four and five in the top 23. Wyatt Brownell of Burlington-Edison was the state champion, shooting a 76 and an 86 for a total of 162.

The 2A Track and Field State tournament begins today at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma and runs through Saturday.

The Port Angeles Roughriders fastpitch team opens State Tournament play tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against Spokane powerhouse, the Shadle Park Highlanders. Despite being seeded 13th, the Highlanders are considered one of the elite teams in the state and may have the top 2A player.

The Highlanders, who went 17-7 overall and 15-2 in league play, score over 15 runs per game. Their star, right-handed senior pitcher Crimson Rice, has signed with Stony Brook University. This year, Rice has a pitching record of 14-2 with 163 strikeouts. Over her four-year career, she has a 40-4 record with a 1.29 ERA, 57 appearances, 259 innings pitched, and 475 strikeouts.

At the plate, Rice is hitting .671 with 46 runs scored, 49 RBIs, 13 doubles, and 9 home runs. She has 35 career home runs and carries a 3.9 GPA. Both of her parents were athletes at WSU.

Shadle Park High School has notable alumni, including Super Bowl XXVI QB Mark Rypien of the Washington Redskins and QB Brett Rypien of the Chicago Bears.

Todd Milles of SB Scoreboard Live, a Washington State high school webpage, has predicted Tumwater to play North Kitsap in one semifinal and Port Angeles to play Sedro-Woolley in the other, with Sedro-Woolley defeating North Kitsap for the state championship. Milles also picked Franklin Pierce for a first-round upset and suggested keeping an eye on Aberdeen and District 4 champion, 5th-ranked WF West.
