PORT ANGELES – At Tuesday’s Port Commission meeting, Port of Port Angeles staff will discuss a proposal method and timeline for parties interested in taking over possession or management of John Wayne Marina.

The Port is suggesting giving them the entire year of 2019 to respond to a Request For Information, and another year for the Port to analyze their submissions.

The Marina property has been a hot topic for over a year since a private developer expressed interest in purchasing the property from the Port back in October 2017. The overwhelming public sentiment was against selling the publicly held property, despite the fact that it runs on a narrow fiscal margin and will eventually need millions of dollars in repairs and upgrades.

Once the idea of selling to a private party was taken off the table, they decided to look at transferring ownership or management to either the City of Sequim, one of the tribes, a non-profit, or possibly some combination.

Port Director Karen Goschen says there’s still some work to do on what exactly their Request For Information would include.

Tuesday’s Port Commission meeting begins at 9:AM at the Port Offices on First Street, and the public is welcome to attend.
