PORT ANGELES – One of the longest-serving law enforcement officers in our area has called it quits.

Clallam County sheriff’s sergeant Randy Pieper retired at the first of the year after 43 years of service to the sheriff’s office.

Pieper will be honored by Clallam County commissioners today.

Pieper began his career with Clallam County in 1977 as a reserve deputy. In 1980, he became a full-time deputy. From 1977—2008 he was assigned to the west end of Clallam County as a patrol deputy, detective, and firearms instructor.

He was promoted to Sergeant in February 2008 and worked as a patrol supervisor in central and eastern Clallam County.  Pieper also took on the responsibilities of lead firearms instructor and Rangemaster.

Pieper participated in almost every Neighborhood Watch Meeting in Clallam County for the last ten years and volunteered to run Citizen’s Firearm Safety programs. He also assisted in orchestrating the Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony each year and serves as a Patriot Guard Rider.
