PORT ANGELES – The full renovation of William Shore Memorial Pool has yet to start almost a month after the pool shut down. The project to expand and renovate the pool was expected to take about a year.

Pool district executive director  Steve Burke says days before closing the pool on May 24, some final bids came in from contractors that were higher than expected. Burke says that delayed getting started by a couple of weeks as the Board of Directors made some cuts to get back on budget. He says cuts were made in their choice of some building materials and other minor features that he thinks will not detract from the design presented to the public.

He says that some prep work has been done inside the building in the meantime, (in fact, there are used lockers available now at Habitat For Humanity in Port Angeles), and Burke expects that in a week or so we’ll see a lot of activity on the work site.
