PORT ANGELES – McKinley Paper Mill in Port Angeles has just announced that they have begun hiring and expect to open for business later this year.

They’re going to hold a hiring event, similar to a job fair July 11. To get started, they’ll be looking for ten multi-craft mechanics, three electrical and instrumentation mechanics, storeroom keepers, a buyer and anyone with engineering talent related to running a paper mill.

Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce and WorkSource are putting this event together and will host it at the WorkSource office in Armory Square on 1st Street, from 9:00am to 6:00pm.

Patrice Varela-Daylo from WorkSource tells us many other positions will be advertised in the coming weeks and months, so resumes from people with general manufacturing, construction, fishing, logging, and similar backgrounds are encouraged.

“Well actually, I think there’s like seven different categories, 10 different categories, and about 34 different positions, classifications. And then of course, there will be multiple hires in each of those positions. And the other thing that it’s important to know is that if there are people who formerly worked for the mill, I want to be seeing them separately.”

These will all be family-wage, union jobs, and the company’s intention is to promote people from within, so there will be room for growth.

Varela-Daylo says if you need help putting together a resume, WorkSource will help you with that, but don’t wait until the day of the hiring event to do so. She also says that if you can’t make it to the event, that won’t count you out. You can call her and set up an appointment.

McKinley Paper is the largest paper manufacturer for packaging, containing, wrapping, and newspapers in North America, with operations in Mexico and the United States. McKinley’s parent company, Bio Pappel, purchased the Port Angeles mill from Nippon Paper in 2017, and has been retooling to produce 100 percent recycled containerboard.
