PORT ANGELES – Update on the demolition project that got under way on Monday in Port Angeles for the Elwha Tribe’s hotel.

Hotel manager Robert Utz reports that demolition has moved along faster than anticipated, with the Necessities, Harbor Art and Budget car rental buildings already down. He says starting next Monday, demolition will begin on the Winters Garage building. This will require the sidewalk to be closed along Front Street, and might at times require a one-lane traffic closure on Front Street as well.

The demolition of the garage is expected to take about a week, and then they’ll move on to removing the Downtown Hotel and Cornerhouse Restaurant building. That phase is expected to require additional lane closures.
