JOYCE — A fire burning near Lake Crescent has grown to 84 acres.

According to the response team public information officer Nick Cronquist, the fire remains 15 percent contained as of Sunday morning.  Two hundred twenty five personnel and three helicopters are still actively working the fire.

Cronquist says firefighters were able to put in lines on the eastern and western edges of the fire. There are portions of the fire located in steep and hazardous terrain making direct attack unsafe. He says they are currently exploring ways to stem the spread of fire in those areas.

The fire started north of East Beach Road Wednesday afternoon. Authorities believe it was human caused. East Beach Road and day-use areas in that area of Lake Crescent are closed.
