BELLINGHAM (AP) — U.S. Navy officials say a search and rescue helicopter retrieved an injured skier from near the summit of Mount Baker Monday.

The 21-year-old man was skiing with a group when he broke his ankle near the western face at around 10,000 feet.

Whidbey Island Naval Air Station’s helicopter crew responded and spotted the group of skiers.

The injured man was hoisted on board and taken to a Bellingham medical center.
